Strathmill Distillery(26 Oct 2001)
Strathmill蒸留所は1891年創業で19世紀のウィスキーブームに建てられた蒸留所の1つ。創業当時はGlenislaと呼ばれていた。トウモロコシの製粉工場を改装した蒸留所は早くも1895年にジンで有名なギルビー社に買収され、名前を現在のStrathmillと改名された。1962年にUD社系列となり、現在はディアジオ系列となっている。
私が蒸留所を訪れた当時に花と動物シリーズのボトルが発売されたが現在ではあまり見かけない。たまに飲みたくなった時にはちょっと困る銘柄でもある。
Strathmill Distillery was established in 1891, one of the distilleries build during the Whisky Boom in the 19th. It was built from a converted corn mill and named Glenisla-Glenlivet.
However, the distillery was acquired by Gilbey’s, which is famous for gin, and renamed Strathmill in 1895. Now, Strathmill Distillery has been owned by UDV since 1962.
At that time when I visited Strathmill Distillery, they started to sell Strathmill single malt of Flora & Fauna bottle. But I don’t usually see that bottle at the whisky shop these days. It’s difficult to get Strathmill single malt whisky when I want to drink it.
Isla Cooperage(26 Oct 2001)
東西に通るRegent StreetからStrathmill蒸留所の看板のある道に入り、蒸留所へ向かって川沿いに歩いていると樽工場があった。Cooperageと言えば、CraigellachieにあるSpeyside Cooperageが有名だけど、蒸留所が集まる所には樽工場は必要な施設だろう。
このRiver Islaの側にあるIsla Cooperageは1989年創業で、現在も近隣の蒸留所に樽を供給している。
I turned at the street crossing on Regent Street to the south, and I walked along River Isla toward Strathmill Distillery. After a while, there was a cooperage. The most famous cooperage is Speyside Cooperage in Craigellachie. I think Cooperage is popular and important service for whisky industry.
Isla Cooperage lies beside River Isla was established in 1989, and they provide oak casks to some distilleries.
